China and ceramic tableware

I found myself looking at china quite often, recently. It all started when I wrote "It's a goldenful life" and referred to Royal Albert's stemware. The reason why Royal Albert is famous is the popularity its china reached, and so, as I like theirs very much, I tried to investigate about china and ceramics, thinking that you might like to learn a bit about it too. First of all, I want to admit that my knowledge in the field is quite limited, however, I will try and do some brush-strokes.

     ROYAL COPENHAGEN

Flora Danica Tableware
This is the most expensive brand of porcelain in Europe. It's the collection "Flora Danica" by Royal Copenhagen. It is still being used by the Danish Royal family, although not as often as before because it has to be preserved in good condition for posterity. Visit their website if you're brave enough to look at their prices without fainting.

     MEISSEN PORCELAIN

     PORCELANA DE MEISSEN

Blue Onion Tableware
Meissen china was the first hard-paste porcelain developed in Europe (1708), more precisely in Meissen, Germany. This line, "Blue Onion", is undoubtedly their most famous.

     LIMOGES PORCELAIN

     PORCELANA DE LIMOGES

Rose de Paris Tableware

Here, we have again hard-paste porcelain, this time developed near the city of Limoges, in France.

     ROSENTHAL

Les Rêves Byzantins (Versace)
Magic flute Sarastro

Rosenthal is also a German porcelain brand. They have lots of lines but I've selected these two because, on the one hand, I'm always talking about how well gold and white go together and on the other hand, because I was surprised that Versace had designed a porcelain line for them. I chose this model, but if you visit their website, you will find many more.

     VILLEROY & BOCH

Also in Germany, we find Villeroy & Boch, a ceramics company founded in the 18th century. In this post I'm showing you their most traditional line "Old Luxembourg". Sometimes simplicity is the key to elegance.

     WEDGWOOD ROYAL DOULTON

From Germany we now move to England to find the finest bone china firms. The three of them, WEDGWOOD, ROYAL DOUTON and ROYAL ALBERT even if founded in the 18th century, belong since 2009 to the same group (the one which gives this section its name). However, they are different brands and deserve an individual explanation.

     WEDGWOOD

Cornucopia Tableware
From Wedgwood I adore their line "Cornucopia" inspired by the "Horn of the Plenty" and therefore, including in its design mythical creatures. On top of that, I find its colour scheme very balanced.

     ROYAL DOULTON

Royal Doulton, another bone china company with great reputation, became an (let's say) everyday use china producer after the creation of Royal Albert. It has much more affordable china even if may not be as breathtaking.

Bunnykins Classic
Fable Accent Plates

Here you have two examples of Royal Doulton's china. Nurseryware and plates.
Vajillas infantiles y platos.

     ROYAL ALBERT

Royal Albert, my favourite, I must say.

Old Country Roses
This collection, "Old Country Roses" is their first and best sold line, used even by Queen Elizabeth. If I could, this would be the one I would purchase. However, Royal Albert has other amazingly beautiful lines such as:

Regency Blue
Miranda Kerr's Gratitude

The one on the left, a fresh and femenine line designed by famous model and Victoria Secret's Angel, Miranda Kerr. And the one on the right, "Regency Blue" launched under the "100 years of Royal Albert" line

     SARGADELOS

To conclude, I would like to introduce this ceramics firm named Sargadelos. As a Spanish girl growing up in a region called Galicia I grew up having tea and coffee in this tableware full of Celtic motifs. For me, the lines on those cups and plates are memories of birthdays, family reunions and loving moments. The white and blue scheme of colours is their identity mark.
